When plans change …

Back in 2019 Ian and I meticulously planned an adventure that would take us on the Trans-Mongolian Railway, travelling from Moscow, through Russia, on to Mongolia and ending in Beijing China. We were excited … it was booked, it was highly anticipated … and then …

Yes … correct! The world went pear shaped. Covid went from being something happening in China to a pandemic that would shut the entire world down. Our trip was obviously cancelled, and whilst we were able to get most of our money back we had a chunk of money sitting with the travel agent who dealt solely with tours to Russia, Mongolia and China.

The tour company generously told us that they would hold on to our money (cue eye roll) and when the pandemic was over we would be able to rebook and take our tour as planned. And then … Russia decided to be a bully and try to take over the Ukraine. So needless to say we thought our money was gone as there was no way you were getting us to travel to Russia while there is such insecurity in the region.

We figured the money was gone for good and we reassured ourselves that whilst we may have lost out on it, we were both safe and well and that there were people far worse off than we were.

Fast forward to late 2023 and the tour company contacted our travel agent to say they have decided to start offering tours to other countries (wise move given no one wants to go to Russia at the moment). We pored over the options and selected a short tour to India that would take in the sights of both New Delhi and Old Delhi, take us to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, then on to Ranthambore National Park for safari tours to hopefully see tigers, then on to Jaipur, which is also known as the Pink City, before returning to New Delhi.

And so, in less than 3 weeks, we will be hopping on a plane with passports and visas in hand for yet another chapter in our “Adventurous Life”. As always I’ll be blogging … so stay tuned.
